IEEE Smart City: Bangladesh perspective
Grammenphone Ltd. in collaboration with IEEE Bangladesh Section and Department of EEE, BUET organized a special training event on the Internet of Things (IoT). The title of the event was “Empowering the Future Through IoT“. The event was held on 4th of February 2018 in ECE Building, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. As the seat number was limited only invited guests participated in the session. Various industry affiliated persons and 20 news reporters from top newspapers and electronic media were present in the session as invited guests.
Professor Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Chairperson of the IEEE Bangladesh Section gave the inauguration speech. In her inaugural speech, she mentioned the ongoing humanitarian technology-based research works supported by IEEE Bangladesh Section and emphasized on the industrial sector’s collaboration with it. Mahmud Hossain, Chief Corporate Affairs officer of Grameenphone Ltd. also gave a speech at the inaugural ceremony.

After the inaugural speech, the training sessions started with Dr. Reduan Hassan Khan, Head of IOT at Grameenphone Ltd. In his session, he talked about the Internet of Things (IoT), how it is going to affect the lifestyle of the future and how the industry of today can prepare themselves for its challenges.
On the second session, Mr. Gazi Saharul Habib from Regulatory Affairs of Grameenphone Ltd. talked about regulatory challenges of IoT and different policies of the government.
The third session of the event was taken by Dr. Shaikh Anwarul Fattah, Professor, Department of EEE, BUET, Nominations and Appointments Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section and Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section for the year 2016. In his session, Dr. Fattah talked about different IoT projects conducting by students of university level in Bangladesh and how to better utilize these projects in collaboration with a company like Grameenphone.
At the last, there was a question-answer session. Chief Corporate Affairs officer of Grameenphone Ltd., Mahmud Hossain conducted this session. Our honorable speakers answered various questions from invited guests and reporters about IOT and its future.
The training session ended with a quiz about IOT. After the quiz, Certificate of Appreciations was handed over to our honorable speakers and guests. There was also a photo session where group photos with everyone present were taken.
The event of that day ended with Lunch from the organizers.
