IEEE Bangladesh Section along with IEEE Bangladesh Section Student Activity Committee (SAC) and IEEE Eastern University Student Branch successful organized the IEEE BDS Student Branch Ex-Com Summit 2018 on 18th May 2018 at Eastern University.
Total 112 individuals including branch counselors, branch chairs and other executive members from 28 different universities came together under the same roof to turn the day into an immensely productive and informative one.
The branch executives from every university who were present were given the opportunity to receive insightful advising and guidelines from the current Bangladesh Section Ex-Com members themselves. The opening speech was delivered by Prof. Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Eastern University and Counselor, IEEE EU Student Branch. Dr. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah, Chairman of Nominations and Appointments Section, IEEE BDS delivered his speech on ‘Quality project proposal writing for possible funding’. Mr. Yeasir Arafat, Vice-Chair (Activity), IEEE BDS delivered his speech on ‘IEEE VOLT’. Rakibul Islam Chowdhury, Humanitarian Activities Coordinator, IEEE BDS delivered his speech on ‘Humanitarian Activity’. Raihan Ur Rashid, Publicity Coordinator, IEEE BDS delivered his speech on ‘IEEE Design Standard and Norms’.
Speeches on ‘IEEE CLE’, ‘IEEE Event Reporting’, ‘IEEE Financial Reporting’ and ‘IEEE Student Branch Counselor Responsibilities’ were delivered respectively by Shams Shad Islam Khan, Student Activity Coordinator, IEEE BDS and Abhijit Biswas, SSR, IEEE BDS, Mohammad Zakaria Haider, Secretary, IEEE BDS, Md. Romael Haque, Treasurer, IEEE BDS and Dr. M. Tanseer Ali, Professional Activity Coordinator, IEEE BDS.
Prof. Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Chair, IEEE BDS delivered her speech on ‘IEEE BDS Vision 2018’ and ‘IEEE Award Nomination’ and shared the year-long activities of IEEE Bangladesh Section in 2018. Engr. Kh. Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, Chairman, Board of Trustees, EU; Prof. Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, Vice Chancellor, EU; Prof. Dr. Md. Aminul Hoque, Advisor, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, EU delivered their motivational speeches regarding the core value of IEEE activities and Eastern University standing to lead it to a step ahead.
The speakers mainly threw light on different aspects of student branch administration including how to apply for funds from IEEE, event reporting, financial reporting and the role of counselors in the management of branch activities. The participants also learned about IEEE CLE, IEEE VOLT and about the current mission and vision of the Bangladesh Section.
All the student branches presented their updated executive committee list along with their future plans about events and also their expectations from the section executives in the upcoming months.
A competition was held between the different student branches based on their slide and poster presentations in order to encourage them to excel better in the future with more quality events and impactful activities. Five student branches jointly earned the best student branch position. These are IEEE BUET Student Branch, IEEE Student Branch DU, IEEE North-South Student Branch, IEEE RUET Student Branch and IEEE UIU Student Branch. Two other student branch got selected as best promising student branches- IEEE DUET Student Branch and IEEE GUB Student Branch.
The day drew to an end with an iftar party in which all the Speakers, Guests, Counselors and Student Branch executives took part to celebrate the first iftar of the holy month of Ramadan together.
