IEEE Smart City: Bangladesh perspective
A session on IEEE Bangladesh Section Membership Development & Activities was held on 30th March 2018 at Auditorium, Dept. of EETE, Dhaka International University. IEEE Bangladesh Section along with Department of EETE, DIU organized the seminar. Prof. Celia Shahnaz, Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section, Prof. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah, Nomination and Appointment Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section, Rakibul Islam Chowdhury, Humanitarian Activity Coordinator, IEEE Bangladesh Section and Abdullah Rocky, Chair, IEEE Young Professionals Affinity Group Bangladesh Section were present as the honorable speakers of the event. The session started at 4:30 PM. Around 150 students and 9 faculties of DIU were present.
Honorable Chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section, Dr. Celia Shahnaz started her session with the message of yearlong celebration of 25th year of IEEE Bangladesh Section. After her introduction, she explained her vision pictorially. She then described some of the notable events of IEEE Bangladesh Section last year.
In the second session, Rakibul Islam Chowdhury showed the slides on the honors IEEE Bangladesh Section achieved. He also shed some light on the continuation of these achievements. Later, he discussed how to develop a humanitarian project as well as how IEEE Bangladesh Section has patronized different humanitarian activities.
The presentation of Abdullah Rocky inspired the graduating students of DIU present among the audience. He shed light on both industry-academia collaboration, IEEE Bangladesh section has conducted and after graduation skill development. He also presented some recent workshop statistics organized by YP.
The students were mesmerized by the technical talk titled “Automatic Disease Detection Using Machine Learning Schemes for Biomedical Engineering” delivered by Professor Shaikh Anowarul Fattah. He presented some complex machine learning algorithms in plain language so that everyone can understand it. He also showed some real-world applications in biomedical engineering using them. He concluded his talk with a clear indication of the benefits of having an IEEE Student Branch in the university.
Among the faculties of Dhaka International University, ATM Dr. Mahabubur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Dr. Abdul Mannan, Professor, Md. Tareq, Assistant Professor, Majidul Islam and Rajat Chakraborti, Lecturer were present. MD. Abdul Bashed, Chairman of Department of EETE, DIU was also present at the event. In his closing remark, he thanked the speakers for conducting the session in DIU and also expressed his keen interest to open up a student branch in his university.
