On 23rd September (Saturday), 2023, IEEE Bangladesh Section & The Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh – IEB is jointly organized a Seminar on Smart Bangladesh with a Safer Climate at IEB Council Hall, IEB, Ramna, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
In the seminar, the keynote talk was presented by IEEE President Professor Saifur Rahman. IEB Vice President Engineer Khandaker Manjur Morshed, General Secretary Engineer Manjurul Haque Manju, Managing Director of Ashuganj Power Station Company Ltd. Engr. AMM Sazzadur Rahman, IEEE Women in Engineering Chair Professor Celia Shahnaz and Institute of Robotics and Automation, BUET -IRAB Director Professor Shaikh Anowarul Fattah participated as special speakers.
Professor Saifur Rahman said, technology should build an inclusive society. Solar energy or natural energy (wind and water) can play a major role in the future in mitigating the damage caused by global climate change. Energy production and energy efficiency must be ensured to build a smart Bangladesh. Also emphasis should be placed on renewable energy and trans border energy transfer. Also, a more efficient and less risky Small Modular Reactor (SMR) should be used as a source of nuclear energy.
IEB General Secretary Engineer Manjurul Haque Manju said that the problem of climate change is a problem of the whole world. To solve this problem, the rich countries of the world that emit too much carbon must be put under pressure. Incentives should be arranged for more affected countries like Bangladesh. Engineer Khandkar Manjur Morshed said that young engineers and entrepreneurs should come forward to build a smart Bangladesh. Youth should innovate technologies compatible with the local ecosystem based on local needs.
Professor Celia Shahnaz said that Bangladesh is at the top of the list of countries affected by climate change. We have to be smart in innovating and using technology to build a smart Bangladesh. The damage of climate change must be tackled using technology. Professor Sheikh Anwarul Fattah said, young engineers are innovating technology to combat climate change and build a smart Bangladesh. He said, everyone should come forward to help these young engineers to innovate more.
The program was presided over by IEEE Bangladesh Section Chair Professor Moshiul Hoque. IEEE Professional Activity Coordinator and IEB Assistant General Secretary Engineer Md.
