IEEE Smart City: Bangladesh perspective
On 23 April 2018 IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Bangladesh Chapter in association with IEEE Bangladesh Section, organized a program to celebrate “First Global IEEE PES Day” at BUET. The event took place on April 23, 2018, at ECE Building, BUET from 3 to 7 pm. This event commemorates the 10 year anniversary of the new PES name. The basic goal of celebrating this day was to familiarize the participants and volunteers about IEEE PES’s history, outreach, goals and vision of “More Power to the Future” and its five pillars.
Dr. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah, Nominations and Appointments Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section, Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section, Dr. Tareq Aziz, Chair, IEEE PES Bangladesh Chapter, Dr. Nahid-Al-Masood, Secretary, IEEE PES Bangladesh Chapter, Azfar Adib, Industrial Activities Co-ordinator, IEEE Bangladesh Section, Dr. Md. Farid Ahmmed, Superintending Engineer, PGCB Ltd. and Md. Azizur Rahman Molla, Deputy General Manager (Export and Project Division), Energypac Engineering Ltd. were present as the honorable speakers of the event. The session started at 3 pm. Around 98 participants including both IEEE members and non-members were present.
Among the speakers, Dr. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah, Nominations and Appointments Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section talked about different aspects of Power and Energy Society. Then Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section further elaborated on those topics and discussed the prospects of IEEE PES Bangladesh Chapter. Dr. Tareq Aziz, Chair, IEEE PES Bangladesh Chapter presented to the audience the journey of IEEE PES Bangladesh Chapter and also about IEEE in general. Dr. Nahid-Al-Masood, Secretary, IEEE PES Bangladesh Chapter gave a short presentation on how to open a PES chapter in an IEEE student branch. Azfar Adib, Industrial Activities Co-ordinator, IEEE Bangladesh Section talked about the prospect of Internet-of-things in our day to day lives and about its possibilities in Bangladesh. Dr. Md. Farid Ahmmed, Superintending Engineer, PGCB Ltd. gave an overview of the power sector in Bangladesh and talked about the different companies involved in the power sector of Bangladesh. Thereafter, Md. Azizur Rahman Molla, Deputy General Manager (Export and Project Division), Energypac Engineering Ltd. gave a presentation on Energypac and the scopes that it provides to graduates looking for a career in the power sector.
During the program the participants also went out on the field in front of the campus, to form a human chain shaped in the form of “PES DAY”. This picture has been featured by Global PES and later they have made it the cover picture in official IEEE PES DAY facebook page.
After the speech segment, there was a short quiz session and the top three scorers in the quiz were presented with gifts. The program concluded with a group photo of all the participants with the speakers.
