The annual event of the department of electrical and electronics engineering, EEE Day, was hosted on the 3rd of April, 2019, by IEEE IUB student branch at IUB campus. This year the event was held at a national level and was prolonged for a period of two days, the 3rd and 4th of April, and included events that encouraged participation of not only universities but also schools and colleges. Several well-known institutes across the country took part in this event, making the EEE Day this year a very successful event.
The event started on 3rd April at 10:00 a.m. with the inauguration ceremony. Dr. Md. Anwer, dean of the school of science and engineering, Dr. Khosru M. Salim, head of department of EEE, and Dr. Mustafa Habib Chowdhury, IEEE IUB student branch counselor, gave their invaluable speech regarding the event. Following the inauguration were several events of the day, which includes project showcasing, seminar on “Women for Life”, poster presentation, as well as competitions held which included Line-Following Robot competition, Robo Race, MATLAB contest and PUBG competition, with which the day-long event ended at 5:00 p.m.
The second day of the event started with the Programming contest, an event which received vast response from multiple institutes and included more than 100 participants. The following event was Rubik’s Cube contest which also received great response, with majority of the participants being from schools and colleges. The day also included a seminar on “Scientific Problem Solving and Opportunity to Work with NASA” where the guest speaker was Mr. Ariful Hasan Opu, founder of Bangladesh Innovation Forum and chief of NASA Solver Bangladesh. As the day reached its end, the closing ceremony was held where the winners of the respective competitions were given their prizes and certificates. The guests present in the closing ceremony were Prof. Milan Pagon, Pro-Vice Chancellor of IUB, Mr. Ariful Hasan Opu, founder of Bangladesh Innovation Forum and chief of NASA Solver Bangladesh, and Ms. Tahmina Afrose, Director of Walton Group. Following the closing ceremony was the Cultural Evening, where intriguing performances were made by members of IUB music club as well as the guest performer of the day, the band Mizan and Brothers, who joined the event later in the evening. After DJ show and Alumni dinner, the two-day long event of EEE Day 2019 finally came to a close.
More than 600 participants registered for the EEE Day event this year, a number which was not seen previously in this event. Thanks to the student committee and activists committee of IEEE IUB Student Branch, as well as respected Faculty members and all other volunteers who worked hard day and night for the event, the EEE Day 2019 was made successful to a grand scale.
WIE Track (Women for Life)
The seminar on “WIE Track” was held on 3rd April, 2019, on the first day of EEE Day 2019 at the Auditorium of IUB. The seminar was hosted by IEEE IUB Student Branch, WIE Affinity Group.
The guest speakers for the seminar included Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section, Anamika bhakta, Chair of WIE AG IEEE BD SECTION, Nasima Akter Nisha, Managing Director at Reverie Corporation Limited and Nafisa Yousuf Khan Manager, Applications planning and management IT, Robi Axiata Limited. In the seminar the speakers shared with the participants their experiences, the various struggles and barriers women of today face, and also shared some valuable methods to overcome the hardships to become successful in both life and career. Dr. Celia Shahnaz also shared information about how IEEE Bangladesh Section supports women in these fields to help them achieve success. The speakers also shared the current position and achievement of women in today’s career world and that there is great possibility in taking this position to a much higher level.
Overall, the seminar was a success and held great power and influence over the participants, mostly the women, who from this seminar were able to grasp a positive standing for themselves regarding the future career world.
Scientific Problem Solving and Opportunity to work with NASA
The IEEE IUB Student Branch hosted a seminar on the topic ‘Scientific Problem Solving and Opportunity to work with NASA’ which took place at the IUB Auditorium on 4th April 2019, which marked the second day of the two-day long event, EEE Day 2019.
Mr. Ariful Hasan Opu, Founder of Bangladesh Innovation Forum and Chief of NASA Solver Bangladesh, was our speaker and chief guest for this event. He is the CEO of the company and played a significant role in gradually developing “e-Soft” into a leading Web-Based Solution firm in Bangladesh. His company has been focusing on local and International Web and E-commerce Development. He achieved 7 times Award for Best Science Project, organized by Ministry of Science, Information and Communication Technology.
In the seminar, Mr. Ariful Hasan Opu shared his contexts and ideas regarding scientific problem solving and shared his knowledge to provide young enthusiasts the first boost and step to let us know about the opportunities that lie ahead for them to work with NASA. The seminar started at 12.00 p.m. and ended at 1.30 p.m. Students from several well-known institutes took part in the seminar, the majority of which included students of school and college levels.
