On 4th May, 2024 (Saturday), IEEE Bangladesh Section organized “IEEE Bangladesh Section Technical Experts’ Forum 2024” at Asia Hotel & Resorts, 34/1 Topkhana Road, Dhaka, Bangladesh
This forum was held in the last year to recognize the contribution of all technical conferences, Reviewers, Session Chairs, Committee Member, Judges and future Volunteers. The major conferences/competitions/ events in 2023 are as follows,
IEEE ICCIT 2023, IEEE ICPS 2023, IEEE WIECON-ECE 2023 and 2023-December Co-located Conferences/Competitions at ICCIT
IEEE BDS congratulates again all of you for your outstanding contributions.
Prof. Saifur Rahman- 2023 IEEE President and CEO was the speaker and chief guest of the event. Prof. Saifur Rahman’s talk focused on technology-driven solutions for climate sustainability. He outlined the ongoing issue of carbonization, emphasizing its role in global temperature rise, extreme weather events, and ecosystem disruptions. The presentation provided data on rising global temperatures, record-breaking heatwaves, and natural disasters such as floods, droughts, and wildfires in various parts of the world.
The discussion then shifted towards clean-tech solutions that can mitigate climate change, including renewable energy integration, carbon capture & storage (CCS), hydrogen energy, and advanced nuclear technologies like small modular reactors (SMRs). He highlighted the importance of cross-border energy transfers and how nations can collaborate for sustainable power distribution.
Prof. Rahman underscored the role of IEEE’s Climate Change Program, which actively engages in global initiatives like the UN COP28 conference. He encouraged engineers and technologists to contribute by innovating sustainable energy solutions.
In conclusion, the talk emphasized that technology, policy, and global cooperation are key to addressing climate change effectively. IEEE continues to play a crucial role in fostering solutions through research, collaborations, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
In this forum Professor Sri Niwas Singh, Director, ABV-IIITM, Gwalior, India, IEEE PES Distinguish Lecturer was presented as a speaker and special guest. Prof. Singh emphasized the importance of research and innovation, highlighting that true research extends beyond academic degrees and should be driven by passion and societal impact. He stressed that Asia, including India and Bangladesh, faces similar challenges, making regional collaboration essential.
A key discussion point was the need for effective research presentation. Many valuable studies are overlooked due to poor documentation, underscoring the necessity of workshops on research writing and patenting. The speaker noted a growing trend where patents are gaining more value than publications in some countries.
The talk also touched on the evolving role of electrical engineering, which is increasingly interdisciplinary, integrating IT, computer science, and communication technologies. He emphasized the multidisciplinary approach in tackling climate change and power sector challenges, aligning with IEEE’s environmental sustainability initiatives.
Furthermore, he highlighted cross-border electricity trade, citing Bangladesh-India power exchange as an example of regional cooperation. The forum was encouraged to continue fostering expert discussions and collaborations to drive impactful research and innovation for societal benefit.
Also Professor Celia Shahnaz, Chair of IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) and Chair of IEEE RAS, IAS, EMBS Bangladesh Chapter was presented as a special guest of the event. Professor. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah, Chair of IEEE SPS, SSIT Bangladesh Chapter, also attended the event as the guest of honor.
This event was chaired by Professor Mashiul Haque, Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section. Also IEEE Bangladesh Section’s Vice Chair (Technical) Prof. Shahriar Khan, Secretary Engr Shohel Rana, Awards Coordinator Prof. M. Imamul Hassan Bhuiyan, Humanitarian Activity Coordinator Muhammad Sajjadur Rahim, Educational Activity Coordinator Dr. Sajid Muhaimin Choudhury, Membership Development Coordinator Prof. Kamruddin Nur, Publicity Coordinator Redwan Ferdous along with various university faculty members, students and industry experts were also present in the event. Around 70 participants attended the forum.
Technical co-sponsors of the event were IEEE Bangladesh Section’s five society chapters, namely IEEE Industrial Application Society Bangladesh Chapter, IEEE SPS Bangladesh Chapter, IEEE Robotics and Automation Society-Bangladesh Chapter, IEEE EMBS Bangladesh Chapter, and IEEE SSIT Bangladesh Chapter.
We sincerely thank the Chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section; Chair/Vice-Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section’s IAS, SPS, RAS, EMBS, SSIT Chapter and ExCom Members; IEEE Bangladesh Section ExCom Members and all hardworking volunteers for their amazing support to make the event a successful.
