International Covid19 Congress (ICC2020)

To exchange our views and share our ideas to fight against the COVID19 pandemic, IEEE Bangladesh Section organized a full virtual event, International COVID19 Congress (ICC-2020). It was held 9th and 10th August 2020. 

Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section was the General Chair of the Congress and Dr. Shaikh A Fattah, Nomination and Appointment Chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section was the Technical Chair of the Congress. Raihan Ur Rashid, Secretary of IEEE Bangladesh Section was the Congress Secretary and the Virtual Congress Management Chairs were S M Saiduzzaman, SK Azmaeen Bin Amir and A N M Nasimunnabi.

The inaugural ceremony of ICC2020 was held on 9th August 2020 at 06:00 AM (GMT +6). The Chief Guest of the ceremony was the IEEE President, Professor Toshio Fukuda, LFIEEE. Special Guests were IEEE R10 Director Professor Akinori Nishihara, LFIEEE and IEEE R10 Vice-Chair Technical Activities 2019-20, Professor Sri Niwas Singh, FIEEE. In his inaugural speech, Professor Toshio Fukuda complimented Dr. Celia and Dr. Fattah for organizing the Congress to share our experiences and ideas of this global pandemic.

The registered participants of this congress was 440 from 15 countries.

In Congress, IEEE Bangladesh Section organized five different Competition/Sharing/Discussion. They are:

1. Idea Sharing Competition
2. Project Competition
3. Debate Competition
4. Research Progress Sharing
5. Great Initiative/Policy Making Sharing

In these competitions 329 participants from 136 teams covering 7 countries registered in the preliminary round and among them 98 teams were selected and registered for the final found.

There were 12 invited speakers in 5 sessions of ICC 2020: COVID 19 Talks. The Speakers were:

The Closing Session and Award Ceremony of ICC 2020 was held on 10th August 2020 at 9:30 PM. The chief of guest of the Ceremony was Honorable Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Mr. Atiqul Islam. In his speech Honorable Mayor shared his experience as a decision maker in the fight against the COVID19 pandemic and the problems he faced and the obstacles he had to overcome. He thanked IEEE Bangladesh Section for this timely and wonderful endeavor.

The congress spans over six parallel rooms. Other than COVID Talks Sessions and Competitions, during the congress seven special sessions were held targeting WIE, YP, Industry Members and society chapters. They were:

IEEE Bangladesh Section along with IEEE Women in Engineering Bangladesh Section jointly organized Women In Engineering Tech Summit 2020 on 9th August 2020 from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM (GMT +6:00) as a part of International COVID19 Congress 2020.

The Keynote Speakers of this session were Dr. Bozenna Pasik-Duncan, Past Chair, IEEE WIE and Dr. Ruomei Li, Chair, IEEE PES Women in Power. The panelists were:

• Young Professionals Meetup: Leadership in Challenging Times

IEEE Bangladesh Section along with IEEE YP Bangladesh Section jointly organized a special session titled, Young Professionals Meetup: Leadership in Challenging Times on 10th August 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (GMT +6:00) as a part of International COVID19 Congress 2020.

The Keynote Speakers of this session was Prakash Lohana, Chair, IEEE R10 Membership Development Committee. Invited Speakers of this session were Narayanana Subramaniam, Senior Staff Architect, Nutanix, India and Dr. Soumya Pandit, Assistant Professor, University of Calcutta, India. This session’s Program Lead was Vice Chair, IEEE YP Bangladesh, Akib Jobaer Rahman and the session was moderated by Dr. Sajid M Choudhury, Chair of IEEE YP Bangladesh. Ankit Dave from IEEE YP Gujarat Section, India and Noor E Karishma Shaik from IEEE YP Victorian Section, Australia contributed to this special session.
