IEEE BUET Student Branch and IEEE Bangladesh Section celebrated 50th year of conquering Moon on 20 July, 2019. A talk was held on the technological and research aspects of space exploration. The session was held on the very day of mankind’s first step on the moon. The program was crowned by the presence of Anamika Bhakta, Chair, Women in Engineering Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section.
At the beginning of the session, Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section and Professor, Department of EEE, BUET talked about the event of Moon landing and its impact on the science and technology of present times. She also discussed how space technology, such as- satellite imaging, geographical data analysis could have a positive impact on the weather forecast and disaster management in Bangladesh.
Dr. Farseem Mannan Mohammedy, Professor, Department of EEE, BUET and Newsletter Editor, IEEE Bangladesh Section talked about the current technological progress regarding space exploration in Bangladesh. In his opinion, the technological progress of our neighboring countries and their recent space exploration programmes have made them a part in the history of mankind. He explained how the enthusiastic minds of this country should take part in the ‘4th industrial revolution’ and take part in space technology related activities to take this nation to a better position both economically and technologically.
Finally, Dr. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah, Professor, Department of EEE, BUET, talked about the requirement of modern nano-technology, fabrication labs and mostly, a dedicated group of people who would focus on designing and producing advanced materials required for such research in the country. In this regard, he expressed his optimism about creating a Space Technology Society that would bring together the bright and enthusiastic minds in the space sector.
