IEEE Bangladesh Section celebrated IEEE Day 2019 on Friday, October 11, 2019 from 10:20 am to 1:50 pm at the VC Seminar Room, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Tejgaon, Dhaka. IEEE AUST Student Branch hosted the event, in association with the mentioned Student Branch’s Power and Energy Society Chapter, Signal Processing and Communication Society Joint Chapter and its Women in Engineering Affinity Group.
67 participants from six different universities, among whom around 58 were IEEE members, joined the event to celebrate the IEEE Day 2019. Professor Dr. A.K.M. Ehtesanul Islam, Head, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, AUST, Professor Dr. A.K.M. Baki, Counselor, IEEE AUST Student Branch, Prof. Dr. Engr. Muhibul Haque Bhuyan, Professor and Chairman, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Southeast University were present among the participants.
The theme of the IEEE Day 2019 by IEEE Bangladesh Section was ‘Commitment of ensuring a safe environment in the university campus by engaging more students in IEEE for retaining and advancing research and technology for the benefit of humanity.’
The event started at 10:20 am in the morning with a minute of silence in the memory of Abrar Fahad, a former Bangladeshi Student of the Department of EEE, BUET who had been brutally killed and upon his memory, all the participants wore a black badge and the festivities and decorations were avoided in the event.
Professor Dr. A.K.M. Ehtesanul Islam delivered the opening speech of the event, where he focused on the safety and security issues of the students in the University campuses and inspired the audience to get more involved in IEEE to grow as a volunteer for the greater benefits of the society. Professor Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section, sent her warm regards and wishes for the success of the event via her message, which was read out to the audience by Ms. Anamika Bhakta, Chair, IEEE BDS WIE Affinity Group. Then Professor Dr. A.K.M. Baki, Counselor, IEEE AUST Student Branch took the stage for the speech by the Counselor of the host Branch.
The Technical sessions started shortly after that with a Talk on ‘Smart City Initiatives of IEEE Bangladesh Section’ By Mr. Shajib Ghosh, Secretary, IEEE EMBS Bangladesh Chapter and Team Lead, ‘Smart city Initiative by IEEE Bangladesh Section’. His presentation contained an overview of the smart city concept in Bangladesh and the prospects of various components of smart cities, suggested by the Smart city Campaign ambassadors and volunteers.
Mr. Abul Al Arabi, Award Coordinator, IEEE Bangladesh Section presented a technical talk on ‘Robotics and Signal Processing Applications’. Aspects of robotics and its practical implementation as well as its demand in the futuristic engineering world were particularly highlighted in his session.
The following session was ‘WIE and Telco Industrial talk’ presented by Ms. Anamika Bhakta, Vice-President, Robi and Chair, IEEE BDS WIE Affinity Group and this particularly informative session was followed by a tea and snacks break.
The sessions resumed with a Technical talk on 5G by Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Baki, Counselor, IEEE AUST SB. The potential features and advancements of the 5G technologies were focused on his session.
This session was followed by an Industrial Talk on Nuclear Power Energy, presented by Nur Mohammad Antor, Chair, IEEE AUST Student Branch. He accentuated the urgencies of finding renewable energy sources and briefly discussed the mechanisms of Nuclear Power Plants.
In the final interactive session, one representative from each participating university came up on the stage to take part in an idea sharing contest based on the theme of IEEE Day 2019 celebration event by IEEE Bangladesh Section. The participants gathered on the stage to cut a cake and took a group photo together with the IEEE Day 2019 official T-shirts put on. The event came to a conclusion with lunch offered to every participant.
